    U.S. - Consular Mail in the Levant 1833/1972: Group of 9 consular letters or envelopes, starting with 1833 letter from the Dragoman of the U.S. - Mission in Constantinople to the Dept. of State in Washington struck with Semlin sanitary h.s. on reverse, 1882 headed envelope 'United States Legation Constantinople locally used to Rear Admiral James W. Nicholson, the Commander of the US Fleet to protect American Citizens and the Consulate during the Anglo - Egyptian War, further four envelopes from the US Consulate in Sivas (Turkey) to Boston, of which two franked with Turkish adhesives, headed envelope 'American Consulate / Sanitary Report'  to THE SECRETARY OF THE TREASURY' in Washington D.C. franked with French adhesives and  tied by CONSTANTINOPLE-GALATA POSTE FRANÇAISE 23-9-13" as well as two rare 1972 envelopes from the U.S. Consulate in Algeria used after the Algerian Government declared the consulate to be in a forbidden military zone.     1873: Lithographed 1 peso dull yellow, perf. 11¾, an unused block of four of rich colour, centred somewhat to left, the lower two stamps with thin spots and each with tiny black ink spots not greatly detracting from the frontal appearance, unused without gum. Despite the imperfections this is a magnificent block in the circumstances - whilst Lind / Goodman recorded eight pairs of this stamp (one used pair was recently sold by Corinphila in Moorhouse sale II, lot 4058) - this is the sole recorded block of four of this stamp.     1875 (Nov 4): Entire letter belonging to the Carcheri correspondence, sent from Guatemala to Genova bearing 1875 Liberty Head 2 r. dull red tied by light Guatemala cds (Nov 4) with "CORREOS DE GUATEMALA" cds and New York transit cds (Nov 25) alongside. Taxed upon arrival and '50' (centesimi) noted with blue crayon on obverse, two 10 c. due and a missing 30 c. stamp used to pay this. Reverse with Genova arrival cds (Dec 11, 1875). Some toning on front and reverse, stamps with faults, nevertheless a scarce usage.rnNote: Most of the few existing covers with Liberty Head stamps are dated 1877-1879. This is one of only three known covers from 1875 with the two real adhesive.

    1879: The ubiquitous ¼ real black on buff postal stationery card, the reply half, used locally within Guatemala City cancelled by octagonal "Correos / Guatemala" datestamp in violet (Feb 28, 1879). The card, with tiny corner wrinkles mentioned for accuracy, is addressed to a German businessman from the Franco-German bussinessman, Sebastián Chenal trying to collect on a debt.
