    1863/64: Eagle 1 r. deep blue, a used vertical pair, margins large to touched on one at top, tied to 1864 cover and most part back to Paris by CORREOS / LA GUAIRA datestamp in black. Carried via British Packet with London transit cds (March 29) and struck with with "GB / 1F 60c." Accountancy marking. Calais entry marking on front (March 30) and charged '8' décimes handstruck due on receipt. A scarce issue on letter. Signed Darteyre.

    1864/65: Eagle Redrawn with 52 pearls in circle, ½ r. orange, the Postal Forgery, a complete sheet of 153 (17 x 9), with large margins all round, some minor folds not affecting the frontal appearance but an astonishing multiple and an important reference sheet for the student of Postal Forgeries, still listed by Stanley Gibbons and Scott.     1865: Postal Forgery ½ r. orange-yellow, a used example on 1865 entire letter from La Guaira to Caracas tied by bold "ADMON DE CORREOS / LA GUAIRA" datestamp (first year of use) in black (Sept 15). A fine and extremely rare entire Scott = $ 3'000.rnrnNote: Scott lists this stamp as 'redrawn', however it is more correctly termed as an unauthorised Postal Forgery whether printed in yellow or orange. For further information see Edition D'Or XVI, page 109, a copy of which is enclosed with the lot. The very few covers bearing the Postal Forgery which have survived are all dated between June 6 and December 18, 1865.

    1865/70: ½ r. brownish-rose, a fine example used on August 14, 1869 entire letter from Maracay to Caracas tied by very late usage of the circular 'Paez' pre-philatelic "CORREOS DE VENEZUELA / MARACAI. / FRANCA" handstamp in brownish ink and also by heavily inked "0" weight mark embellished by the Postmaster in ink. Rare and fine cover.

    1865/70: 2 r. yellow, a quadrisected usage to pay the ½ r. real rate, used on 1868 cover from La Guaira to the British Legation in Caracas, endorsed 'per. Correo June 1' at lower left, tied by circular undated "CORREOS / LA GUAIRA." handstamp in black. File fold through the adhesive but a great rarity - this was not a sanctioned issue but used to defraud the Posts, probably with the connivance of the La Guaira Postmaster. Cert. RPSL (1969).

    1880: Litho 5 c. pale blue, 10 c. scarlet pair, 25 c. orange and 50 c. brown, all used on 1880 registered cover to Halifax, Canada tied by 'Puerto Cabello' datestamps (Aug 14) in black. Reverse with further Puerto Cabello cds, New York / Paid All' transit (Aug 27) and 'Halifax N.S / Canada' arrival cds (Aug 31). A fine four colour franking to a most unusual destination: a rare issue on letter.
