    Frederick III (1609-1670) King of Denmark and Norway (1648/70): Royal Lettersheet 2 1/2 p. written in German Language, signed and dated Copenhagen 20. Septembris Anno 1658, addressed to the Archbishop of Trier/Germany concerning the Siege of Copenhagen by Swedish troops (August 1858): "Wir haben in denen von dem Könige (Charles X Gustave) ... abgelassenen Schreiben wahrgenommen, dass derselbe nicht vergnüget, unss wider aller Völcker rechte, auch den zue Roeschildt (Treaty of Roskilde) am 26. February jetztlauffenden Jahrs ... und den Schwedischen Reichs Räthen mit Handt und Siegel bestätigten Friedensschluss, feindtlich zu überfallen." Seal missing, but a historically important letter with full transcription included. On August 11, 1658 Charles X and his forces reached Valby hill (Frederiksberg) from where they could overlook the Danish capital. That same day the city gates were closed and would not open again for another 22 months. A Swedish fleet of 28 ships blocked the harbor. The Dutch Republic joined the conflict on the Danish side and a reinforcing fleet managed to smash its way through the Swedish naval forces in Øresund (Oct. 29 1659).

    1856: Small piece bearing 10 kop. carmine in a reconstructed horizontal strip of five, pair and strip of three, with large margins all round, creased vertically between first and second, and third and fourth stamps but not touching the design, minute tear in second stamp, all cancelled by manuscript pen crosses and by low boxed "Brahestad" datestamp (18 July 1858) in black and also by 'Ank' marking in black. A rare multiple being the third largest unit known, slight thin spots under each where the strip of excellent colour and appearance. Signed Gummesson and Fabergé. Cert. Gummesson (1992).     1934: DK 40 öre green Ship and 1930 Pakke-Porto 70 öre violet and 1 kr. orange, both Thiele printings. Label 139 on Danish parcel card type 50 sent locally in Copenhagen to be forwarded by the KGH to Julianehaab. The sender wanted to pay the full postage, therefor he noted 'Porto for Forsendelse til Grönland fremsendt pr. Postanvisning' (postage for Greenland paid via COD). Two Pakke-Porto stamps were applied on top of the Danish stamp to cover the postage to Greenland. Exceedingly rare and in excellent conditon. Certificates Lundegaard (1975) and Möller A.I.E.P.
