Tepeji Del Rio ½ r. blue, a huge large margined horizontal pair tied to cover front to Mexico City by fine strike of two line FRANCO EN / TEPEXI DE RIO handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 1617) in red.  During the period of the first issue Tepexi was a Sub-Office and used stamps overprinted in Mexico City. 1 real yellow, the mint block of thirty from Plate I, 'Apam' District overprint in blue, margins large to touched at left, central vertical crease and horizontal crease between the third and fourth rows, neither crease greatly affecting the stamps or appearance, some minor aging mostly affecting the reverse, of fresh colour and a very scarce large multiple - there being just two blocks of this size extant from Apam, the largest recorded; large part to unmounted og. Cert. Mepsi (1979).
    Ausruf : 500 CHF

    Losnr. : 4025 Mexiko

1 real yellow, 'Jalapa' District name overprint, a fine used horizontal pair clearly showing the 'Shifted Transfer' variety at top with the 'Correos Mejico' ribbon doubled, the stamps both being 'vertically' stretched. This plate deficiency must have been soon flattened out as neither Vannotti until 1989 nor this describer (since 1989) has found a further example. The pair is lightly cancelled by the scarce framed S.J.E / LOS LLANOS handstamp (Schatzkes fig. 619) in black. See article in 'Mexicana', April 1989 on pages 107-108 for further information. Rare, possibly unique.

    Losnr. : 4026 Mexiko

1 real yellow, 'Morelia' District name overprint, a mint example without gum, from Plate III, Position 55 on sheet of 200, showing the variety '4 Reales inverted Correos Mejico ribbon across Hidalgo's Eyes in Red'. A fresh and fine example of this rarity as illustrated in Celis Cano (page 28) and in Franco Vannotti's article in 'Mexicana' (April 1989, pages 107-108). Vannotti's conjecture was that the 1856 issue of Mexico was printed not with five transfer rolls (one for each value) but with one single transfer roll utilised for all the five denominations of value. A rare stamp.

Zacatecas Provisional 2 r. yellow green, without District name overprint, five single examples, one with very clear diagonal manuscript 'Zacatecas' overprint, two examples with traces of ink from manuscript overprint, fine used examples all cancelled by the mute '0' handstamps (Schatzkes fig. 1849B) typically found used on the 1864 Eagle issue. A fine and rare provisional group used during the 1861 issue period. Certs. Jaretzky (1985).

Note: During the Occupation of Zacatecas by Conservative forces, the Postmaster of Zacatecas was left without the District overprint device and his stock of 1861 issue adhesives was exhausted. Having partially solved the problem with 'Sello Negro' covers, the Postmaster in March 1864 used the small supply outstanding from the 1856 issue with a manuscript District name. This has often faded over time and is difficult to see - however the mute '0' cancellation is often a good method of spotting them in used condition.
