1608/09: Venetian "AQ" letter-sheets with the Lion of St. Mark emblem between, the World's First Postal Stationery (pre-dating the 'Cavallino's and the Mulready by over two hundred years), small group of five items with a mint example and four used-all in the first two years of issue, one being dated February 1608. The "AQ" standing for "Acque" was printed at the top of each sheet along with the 1608 statute under which the system operated, with a further surcharge of 4 soldi for posting each letter. 1850: 45 c. slate-blue, type II on hand-made paper in a block of four plus single, all tied by CREMA 7/7 datestamp to fragment of a registered letter with on reverse an additional 30 c. brown, type I on hand-made paper (corner cut away) for the registration, tied by two crossed strikes of one-line RACCOMANDATA. All the stamps were removed for quality control and replaced with hinges in their original positions, the rare block of four is touched at top while the other three margins are good to large.
