    1881: 1½ d. brown on buff postal stationery card used to the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, cancelled by scarce framed "ELMINA / PAID / MR 27 81" datestamps in black. Circular "Paid / Liverpool / Br. Packet" cds of transit in red (April 23) and reverse with London arrival (April 25) in red. Interesting message "There is no chance of War out here I'm afraid...".     1891: Cover from Dix Cove, endorsed at top left "Dix Cove" in manuscript, sent stampless to St. Gallen, Germany (sic), struck with framed "AUS / WESTAFRIKA" in black and "Schiffsbrief" in violet. Address changed to "Schweiz" in manuscript and delivered correctly with Switzerland Postage Due 50 c. carmine & pale green tied by St. Gallen cds (Nov 7) in black. A most unusual cover.

    1892 (5. Oct.): 4d mauve and 1d rose-carmine, tied to 2d. registered envelope by two clear strikes "BERRAKU/GOLD COAST", a further crisp strike is on the reverse, together with a transit Accra (6. Oct.). The letter is directed to London, where it arrived via Liverpool (3 Nov.) on the 4. November 1892. The letter shows gentle ageing, but is of great rarity.

    1884/91: 2 s. deep brown, a single example on 1894 registered cover to Birmingham tied by barred obliterator with ACCRA despatch cds alongside (Nov 22).     1897 (Oct 30): ½ d. QV inland rate postal stationery card from ODUMASI to ABURI, the indicum is gently stamped Odumasi type ' A', with an arrival Aburi type 'A', and a straightline MISSENT TO ABURI. The card was subsequently redirected to AKROPONG where it received two datestamps (Oct 31 and Nov. 3). Some aging but nonetheless most unusual.

    1898: 1 d. dull mauve & rose, a used example on 1899 cover to Wolverhampton endorsed "Per Mail Steamer" and "Urgent", tied by bold strike of "BEYIN / GOLD COAST" code C cds (Sept 22) in black. Repeated information strike at left and reverse with Axim transit (Sept 23) and Wolverhampton arrival cds (Oct 9). Some soiling but rare - no example of this datestamp on cover in Sacher - just one cover noted in thje 1991 "Ashanti" sale, this used on the same day. Rare.

    1898: Ashanti Campagn. Soldier's Letter to Miss Vivian Watkin in Bath, endorsed at top "On Active Service, No Stamps Available", and unclear "H. E. Watkin, O.C. (Officer Commanding) Black Volta Regiment" at left, struck on despatch with "KUMASI / GOLD COAST" cds (Feb 22) with circular "T" marking in black boldly struck. Bath arrival cds (April 1) on obverse and charges of both "2½d." and "5d.". Reverse with "Cape Coast / Gold Coast" cds (March 4) and "Liverpool / Br. Packet" cds (March 31). Some opening tears but scarce.

    1899 (16. Jan): 2½ d. ultramarine and orange, tied by double circle "KUMASI" and very rare two line "NORTHERN TERRITORIES / GOLD COAST" and single line date stamp to letter to Lagos. On the reverse is a double circle "CAPE COAST" (17. Feb,) and an arrival Lagos (20. Feb.). The franking shows some missing perfs at top right, the very rare letter is signed Todd AIEP and comes with certificate RPSL (1953).

Apr.) set beside, with preprinted address the "Editor.. SHIPPING WORLD YEARBOOK London" On the reverse a Plymouth transit and a London arrival (27. Apr.) Unusual letter with slight patina.

Sep.): 2 1/2d. ultramarine and orange, affixed to 2d. blue Registeration pre-paid envelope to Banbury, cancelled by very rare pen cancellation "DODOWAH 5-9-01", with the full written date set beside as would be the non existing canceller. A transit ACCRA  (9. Sep.) and two transits LONDON (2. Oct.) both and the arrival Banbury (2. Oct.) compelte the documentation of the journey of this exceptional letter.

    1905/07: De La Rue Die Proofs for the ½ d. and 1 d. values, Country name and Duty Plate only, printed in black on glazed white card cut down to stamp size from the day-book, the ½ d. endorsed "Jan 19, 120 leads" and crossed as completed (Feb 22, 1907) in red; the 1 d. endorsed "July 24, 120 leads" and crossed as completed  (Sept 15, 1905) in red ink. Rare.

    1913: 1 d. carmine used on 1914 cover to London, poorly cancelled and overlapped by temporary manuscript "OPENED BY CENSOR ACCRA / AND RESEALED" label at top, the label 'tied' by staining from a paper clip. ACCRA cds on reverse (Aug 5) and partial "CENSOR / GOLD COAST" in black. A tad grubby but a very early usage of both Censors.

Oval "Registered / GPO Gambia" datestamp on reverse of transit (Nov 10) and arrivals. Scarce.
