Reverse with Milano & Firenze transit as well as ROMA arrival (Dec 29) cds's. Correct franking paying the rate until the Papal border, the receiver had to pay '6' (bajocchi) for the rest of the journey.     1865 (Oct 3): Double rate envelope from Pavia to Milano, bearing a mixed franking of 1863 DLR 15 c. celeste and 1865 (Jan) 'Ferro di cavallo' 20 on 15 c. blue in Type I, two fresh and fine adhesives, tied by fair PAVIA despatch cds, an information strike alongside. Reverse with indistinct arrival cds and distribution handstamps. A unique 'gemelli' combination, where the DLR adhesive was counted like a non-overprinted 'Ferro di cavallo' 20 centesimi adhesive, thus it was obliterated and the cover not taxed. Part of backflap missing, nevertheless a most interesting Fieldpost item, signed Calves; cert. E. Diena (1981).rnNote: The letter was written by Alexandre César Paul Marie d'Oncieu de la Bâtie (1838-1875), an officer of Savoyan roots who served the king of Sardinia. It was despatched after the armistice at the end of the Third War of Italian Independence, but prior to the final peace treaty of Vienna.

    1868 (Sept 25): Sixfold rate Envelope from the 'MINISTERO DI MARINO' in Firenze, directed to the Chief Commander of the Italian Naval Division of South America in Montevideo, bearing 1866 Torino printing 2 l. scarlet, a single example and a horizontal pair, fine and fresh adhesives in a vibrant shade, tied by light '12' numeral obliterator, FIRENZE despatch cds and "P.D." handstamp in black alongside, the latter lateron erased and replaced by a "P.P." handstamp in black. The front was struck in addition by French "ITALIE LANSLEBOURG 28 SEPT 68" entry cds in blue and "LONDON PAID 29 SP 68" transit cds in red. Reverse with blue cachet of the Italian Ministry of the Navy and "TORINO - SUSA" ambulant cds. Minor toning and some edge wear just mentioned for accuracy, a splendid piece of postal history, the two lire definitives paying six times the 100 centesimi rate via Great Britain to the port in Uruguay.
