1921 (Dec): Unframed Overprints, typographed in Mecca: 2 pi. claret, rouletted 13, overprint in gold, a fine mint example from position 21 on the sole sheet of 50 printed (of which 20 have never been found), tropicalised as normal but with fine appearance and full original gum underneath tissue paper. A great rarity, unlisted by Gibbons and mentioned in a footnote by Scott. Cert. Arabian PAI (2003).
Note: Ex the 'Al Mojaddedi' find. This find emanated from the family archives who had been repaid in postage stamps when King Ali's troops looted his sugar imports during the Siege of Jeddah in 1925. All of the gold overprinted stamps known come from one sheet which was probably a Proof sheet for approval by King Hussain or the Hejaz Post Office. All of the stamps found were somewhat toned having been stored for 80 years in Jeddah without air-conditioning. 20 stamps have never surfaced, the balance were sold by the family in the years since 1997.
