I became a neighbour of the Andorrans and French ... and ... with the change of detachment, the transfer of command and the search for a house, I do not rest for a moment. 1871 (1. Oct): 2c. brown and 1c. violet-blue as insufficient franking for a letter via BOSTON and HAMBURG to FINERÖDJA SWEDEN. The letter bears transit marks BOSTON, Hanburg (16. Oct) and PKKXP No 2 (17.Oct). Upon arrival the letter was taxed 61 ö. The postage due was then accounted for in postage stamps 30 ö brown, 12 ö blue, vertical pair, 5 ö yellow green and 3 ö brown, adding up to 62 ö possibly due to the fact that other values to make the correct charge were unavailable or would not fit on the small envelope. They were then cancelled with five strikes FINERÖDJA (22. Oct.). The exceptional letter shows traces of mild ageing. Nonetheless an outstanding item of Swedish philately. Certificate Obermüller-Wilen (2011).rnRemark: This is the only Transatlantic Mail cover to Sweden which has a combination of postal adhesives from both countries, prior to the issue of postage dues stamps. Its rarity is enhanced because the other seven covers recorded, which have the underpayment 'charge' applied by the use of Swedish postage stamps, all orginate from Europe (x6 Germany and x1 Denmark). Therefore, this is probably 'the' most important UPU Transatlantic Mail cover from the USA to Scandinavia.Starting bid : 7,500 CHFHammer price : not soldLot# : 3339 Sweden

First Afghan War 1841 (Aug. 5): Second page of an entire letter, written by General Elphinston presumably from the camp outside Kabul, sent to Regents Park, London, there put in Poste Restante, on reverse with light strike of the rare intaglio "AFGHANISTAN / PAID" handstamp (Robson Lowe Asia HS1) in brownish red, dated in manuscript rather indistinctly, on obverse clear oval INDIA handstamp in red, reverse with London arrival datestamp (Oct. 8, 1841). The cover was first charged "2 / 8", this due later on excised as the INDIA and the AFGHANISTAN handstamp indicate payment of postage, the letter bears a handwritten date "5th August 1841". A rare cover that opens well for Exhibit display. Signed Todd AIEP.rnrnNote The British attempted twice to establish a cooperative government in Afghanistan under Shah Soojah. During the First Afghan War they occupied Kabul twice, first in August 1841 and after their disastrous withdrawal in November 1841 again in 1842. Although no place of despatch is given here, this cover was therefore sent two days before British forces entered Kabul on August 7, 1842.rnProvenance: The Afghanistan - Horst Dietrich Grand Prix Collection”, David Feldman sale (Nov. 2003), lot 10020.Starting bid : 300 CHFHammer price : 1,100 CHFLot# : 3367 Afghanistan
