1914 ( Sep.) 20 Pf. ultramarine overprinted TOGO ANGLO - FRENCH OCCUPATION, overprint 3mm spacing and 5mm off centre to the left, horizontal pair on envelope as correct 2d franking for a standard letter to Wales. The Sender was a British nurse serving with the Togoland Field Force. The stamps are slightly tropical but otherwise clean and fresh, the flap on the reverse shows minor signs of eagerly anticipated mail being opened. The print Nummer H 4313-10 is in the right hand margin. Some separation in margins and centre where the sheet was folded. The odd stain in margin does not detract. Very rare in entire sheet. 1914/1920: Collection of twenty-five incoming letters with a range of routes taken. The most extraordinary being a Spanish letter first sent on 10. Jan. 1915, which went via Italy and Germany where it was stamped "ZURÜCK! KEINE BEFÖRDERUNGSGELEGENHEIT", so when it reached Spain again the route endorsement was changed to 'via Inglesa', the letter franked again and it duly arrived in Togo four weeks later. 1916/20: 3d brown KGV, with three line overprint TOGO ANGLO-FRENCH OCCUPATION five Registered envelopes, all Size H, mostly sent to destinations outside the Empire including DAKAR, BASEL, COTONU, and BERLIN, as well as to CAPE COAST. Two, the one to BERLIN and the one to CAPE COAST bear no additional franking, whereas the this would be normal fo one, the other would appear underfranked but not charged postage due. All appear to be genuine commercial usages with transits and some with censors. A beautiful batch of rare envelopes in mostly very good condition.
