Crash of Short S25 Sunderland Flying Boat 'G-AGES' from Nigeria - Lisbon - (Foynes) at Mount Brandon 1943 (July 28): Fine P.o.W. correspondence of 20 cards or envelopes concerning Seaman Bobbie Mc Gee Prisoner of War at Tandjongpriol Camp near Batavia (1943/44) of which two similar to his wife Jean (Joan) in Glasgow, including 'DAMAGED BY / FIRE IN TRANSIT' purple cachet applied on two Japanese P.o.W. cards, both safed at the Mount Brandon, 1941/42 envelopes (6) addressed to Bobby McGee, bearing 'Return to Sender on Admiralty Instructions' missing report labels, further censored covers (9) sent from his wife Jean McGee in Glasgow to Japanese Red Cross in Tokyo as well as two British P.o.W. stationery cards addressed to Robert Mc Gee in 'Malaya Camp' (1944). Seaman Bobby McGee, serving on H.M.S.Sultan, the land based Naval HQ at Singapore, was captured in the Banka Straits and was reported dead by the Japanese by error. History at it's Best! B.O.A.C. Crash of Short S25 Sunderland Flying Boat 'G-AGES' from Nigeria - Lisbon - (Foynes) 1943 (July 28): Japanese P.o.W. postcard dated June 19, 1942, written by British P.o.W. John Madren at Changi Camp in Singapore to his Mother in Essex, England, showing local "TRAIGHLY 3. VIII 43" cds. and manuscript finder's note: "KERRY EIRE, CARD picked up at Mount Brandon scene of plane accident /July 43". Rare privately safed after the Mount Brandon crash July 28 1943 without official crash cachet and locally posted at Traighli (Tralee Co. Kerry). About 30'000 P.o.W. letters/cards were carried on this crash flight, of which only 2'500 were recovered by local people. Crash of Short S25 Sunderland Flying Boat 'G-AGES' from Nigeria - Lisbon - (Foynes) 1943 (July 28): 'DAMAGED BY / FIRE IN TRANSIT' purple cachet applied on P.o.W. postcard probably written in June 1942 by Pte. E. Cottam in Japanese P.o.W. Changi Camp in Singapore to Miss Cottam in England with violet Japanese- and red British censor marks. Card vertically folded, safed at the Mount Brandon crash July 28 1943 accompanied by headed letter of the British Prisoner of War Department (7th Sept. 1943) addressed to Ms. Cottham: ".... the mauve stamp appearing on the top left hand corner of the card indicates that it was despatched from Malaya, but there is a possibility that he may have been moved from the country since the card was written". Further letter from the Canadian Red Cross (June 19, 1946) concerning Pte.
