1723: Alvise III Sebastiano Mocenigo (1662–1732) the 112th Doge of Venice (1722 to 1732). Vellum manuscript. Fine and complete parchment document with official lead seal "ALVISIUS MOCENICO DEI GR(ATI)A D(UX) VENETIA (RUM) ET C(etera) with attached Notary act and the debts/credits list to the Family Selvatico. Born into one of the most important families (the House of Mocenigo) of the Venetian aristocracy, he was a famous Doge of the Republic of Venice in the 18th century, when the power of Venice started to decline. He dedicated his political life to defending Venetian possessions in the Balkans from the Ottoman Empire. The N.1 first flew in 1940 and was briefly regarded as the first successful jet-powered aircraft in history, before news emerged of the German Heinkel He 178's first flight a year earlier. To produce this aircraft, which was officially designated as the N.1, Campini formed an arrangement with the larger Caproni aviation manufacturer. On 27 August 1940, the maiden flight of the N.1 occurred at Caproni facility in Taliedo, outside of Milan, flown by renowned test pilot Mario de Bernardi. The collection's main strength lies in the 1930-40s issues from the Vatican and San Marino including the Vatican "Centenary of the first stamp" miniature sheet mint and the 1933 definitive set unmounted mint. San Marino begins with the 1877 series with 2c, 10c, and 40c in mint, also containing a good range of miniature sheets, including Mi 4A and 4B. The covers of Italy bear a range of censor marks from both wars, together with some postmark interest.
