    1880 (March 22): Great Britain 1876/79 2½ d. rosy mauve pl. 15 used on cover front from Kyrenia to Tunbridge Wells and re-addressed to Bath on arrival, tied by bold "974" obliterator in black with equally fine KYRENIA / CYPRUS circular datestamp of despatch at left (March 22, code A). The lastest recorded date of use of these cancellations as 'Used Abroad', Cyprus stamps being issued just ten days later.     1878 (Dec 7): Great Britain 1864/79 1 d. red pl. 179, used on local cover from Larnaca to the Commissioner, Colonel Falkland Warren tied by "942" obliterator with fine LARNACA / CYPRUS datestamp below (Dec 7, code B) in black. Col. Warren spent a great deal of his time in Cyprus excavating archaelogical digs for which he gave himself permission. Many of his finds are now housed in the British Museum and in the National Art Gallery in Ottawa. A charming and rare cover.rnProvenance: Collection Col. D.M. Eley, RL, Basel, 23 March 1976, lot 45.

    1879 (July 9): Great Britain 1864/79 1 d. red pl. 221 in a horizontal pair and 1876 2½ d. rosy-mauve pl. 14 used on 1879 registered cover from Larnaca to Stockerau near Vienna at single rate tied by two strikes of the "942" obliterator with LARNACA / CYPRUS datestamp (July 9, code A) at base and superb oval framed REGISTERED / CYPRUS in black above. Reverse with Brindisi transit (July 17) and Stockerau arrival cds. The cover trimmed at top but a spectacular and very rare usage.

    1879 (July): Great Britain 1876/79 2½ d. rosy mauve pl. 14 used on 1879 cover from Larnaca to Alexandria, Egypt, presumably handed to Ship's Captain as the adhesive tied by superb strike of Egyptian 81 dot 'retta' in black probably applied on board or quayside on arrival, the reverse with Alexandria cds (July 19). Slight, typical edge wear to envelope as usual with this famous correspondence. Charming and very rare.
