    1878 (Dec 7): Great Britain 1864/79 1 d. red pl. 179, used on local cover from Larnaca to the Commissioner, Colonel Falkland Warren tied by "942" obliterator with fine LARNACA / CYPRUS datestamp below (Dec 7, code B) in black. Col. Warren spent a great deal of his time in Cyprus excavating archaelogical digs for which he gave himself permission. Many of his finds are now housed in the British Museum and in the National Art Gallery in Ottawa. A charming and rare cover.rnProvenance: Collection Col. D.M. Eley, RL, Basel, 23 March 1976, lot 45.
