1901: De La Rue Artist's Essay for the proposed 5 s. value in the exact size of the issued stamp, with King's Head printed in grey-green inserted into hand-painted frame in deep blue, pale blue and Chinese white on thick card (89 x 114 mm.). Dated at top "Sept 13 1901" in manuscript. This Essay was the original sent out by the Crown Agents to the Colonial Secretary, Antigua for approval on behalf of Antigua, Dominica and Montserrat with a photographic copy retained by De La Rue.
