Livorno arrival cds (Sept 24) on reverse. The cover with minor bends and a vertical break in face panel not greatly affecting the appearance of an extremely rare and attractive combination usage. Anchor, lettered "LH/FL" in error, a fine used example, cancelled by "C" obliterator of Constantinople in black leaving the lettering clear. Exceptional and very rare. Cert. BPA (1993) Gi 140 = £ 2'750 / listed but unpriced used in Constantinople.rnrnNote: The Karl Louis Card Index records just three off cover used examples of this stamp used with 'C' obliterator, the Yates example (1940), the Trivett (1924) then Glassco (1969) example and the 'Besançon' example offered here. This famous error was discovered by an American collector in early 1893. He was at first disbelieved, however when A.B. Creeke examined the Plate 2 imprimatur sheet, he confirmed the existence of the flaw in October 1893.
