Typographed from electrotypes by Samuel Calvert 1857: Emblems 1 d. yellow-green, wmk. Large Star, imperforate, a used single, horizontal pair and horizontal strip of five, all with good to large margins all round, on 1857 cover to Beechworth, tied by barred numeral "1" obliterators of Melbourne in black. Reverse with Melbourne despatch datestamp (April 4) and Beechworth arrival (April 8). The embossed flap on reverse of the cover identifies the sender as the Melbourne firm "Fergusson & Mitchell", engravers and printers. John Mitchell was the true, alas unacknowledged, designer of the Emblems Issue. A delightful and scarce cover. Certs.
