    Ballon monté 1870 (Nov. 7): Entire formular letter carried on board of balloon no. 27 'La Gironde' to London, franked with Napoléon laureated 40 c. orange 'vif', a fresh example, tied by star '8' with Paris Antin cds as well as framed PD and "LONDON PAID NO 9 70" cds, both in red alongside. The stamp torn at right, still an attractive entire overpaid by 10 centimes.rnNote: The message of a husband to his wife describes the situation in the besieged city: "When last I wrote to you peace seemed so near and now it is as far off as ever. The armistice not being concluded we must fight it out and God knows how or when it will end.".
