    Ballon monté 1870 (Nov. 7): Entire formular letter carried on board of balloon no. 27 'La Gironde' to London, franked with Napoléon laureated 40 c. orange 'vif', a fresh example, tied by star '8' with Paris Antin cds as well as framed PD and "LONDON PAID NO 9 70" cds, both in red alongside. The stamp torn at right, still an attractive entire overpaid by 10 centimes.rnNote: The message of a husband to his wife describes the situation in the besieged city: "When last I wrote to you peace seemed so near and now it is as far off as ever.
