    1866: Covers with complete contents (2) from the Consulate General of Switzerland in Washington DC., each sent stampless and carried free as far as New York as Consular Mail, thence by "Hamburg" or "Bremen" Steamer, one cover at single rate with "3 / N. YORK HAMB. PKT." in black and handstruck "22" (kreuzers) in black  alongside "4½ Sgr. / 6 Xr." applied in Hamburg in transit (Van Der Linden fig. 3265, latest recorded usage) and thence via Frankfurt to Winterthur; second larger cover at double rate struck with "6 / N.YORK BREM. PKT." and blue "AMERICA / ÜBER BREMEN" with large "44" (Kreuzers) in same ink below (Van Der Linden figs. 115, 3196, latest recorded use). A fine and rare pair that display well.
