    1849: 20 c. black on yellowish and 1 fr. carmine, used on 1849 cover to Copenhagen, Denmark, the 20 c. just shaved at top and the 1 fr. similarly just touched at right, each tied by manuscript pen strokes and grill obliterators in black and further cancelled by 'Paris' despatch datestamp (Nov 8). Red framed 'PD' at left, although actually overpaid 10 centimes as this value of the first issue had yet to be issued. Manuscript at left 'frco. 9' marked at Hamburg in schillings (equivalent to 29 skilling). Two vertical file folds away from the adhesives, reverse with Thurn & Taxis and Danish Post Office in Hamburg datestamps (Nov 10) in black. A remarkable and extremely rare franking - the earliest recorded stamped letter from France to Denmark. Signed Roumet; certificates Roumet (1999), RPS (2002).

    Courier Field Post 1920: 10 hr. on 50 sh. carmine in a fine vertical pair (pos. 14/19) used with 20 hr. on 20 sh. brown (pos. 25) paying the registered rate on 1920 cover to Theodore Champion in Paris, tied by 'Stavka A' (Field P.O. headquarters) datestamps in violet (Oct 15). The cover was carried to Tarnow and transmitted with Poland with manuscript at top 'At Central Office Tarnow the letter was registered' and franked by 1919 5 m. brown-lilac tied by Tarnow cds in black. Registration cachets in violet and in black respectively alongside and reverse, top flap missing, with Field Post Office datestamp in violet (Oct 20). The Field Post issue was only valid within the Ukraine and their adhesives have also been cancelled by an unidentified 'D.P.' handstamp in black. 

    Despite 1919 5 m. brown-lilac with lower right cover defective, a remarkable and extremely rare cover, purchased from Roumet in 1950 and believed unique.

    Stato Pontificio 1852: 7 baj. black on blue, a superb used horizontal strip of three with large even margins all round, used on cover from Rome to Copenhagen cancelled by 'Roma' datestamps in black with repeated strike alongside at right and the envelope crossed in manuscript to denote pre-payment. Reverse with Berlin transit (Dec 28), Hamburg cds (Dec 29) and Danish P.O. in Hamburg cds of the same day. Despite the September 27, 1852 Postal Treaty stating that prepayment was possible to Denmark at this rate (5 baj. for Papal States, 8 baj. for German / Austrian share of Postage and 8 baj. for Danish share), the letter was nevertheless charged '16' (skilling) due in manuscript on reverse.     Lombardo-Veneto 1850: 45 c. blue, superb large margined example used with large margined 30 c. brown, on reverse, on registered cover addressed to 'Seine Majestät Cristian VIII, König von Dänemarck' in Copenhagen, with the 45 c. tied by two line dated ASIAGO / handstamp in black and the 30 c. on reverse over flap tied by manuscript pen strokes. Further endorsements on front with weight notification alongside the adhesive, struck with framed 'Aus Oesterreich' and 'Recomandirt' in red and over-inked 'Recomandata' in black (blue 'frco. Hamburg' in manuscript alongside). The reverse with 30 c. adhesive slighty aged, fine framed 'Wilhelmsbahn' transit in red (25/9) and Hamburg cds (26/9) in black. The 75 centesemi paid for the postage and registration as far as Hamburg, the letter being addressed to the deceased Cristain VIII, was therefore not charged on arrival in Copenhagen.     Lombardo-Veneto 1850: 45 c. clear blue, a fine horizontal pair from first printing, with close to large margins all round Sassone 10a, used on attractive cover to Ringsted, Denmark tied by bold strikes of two line VENEZIA / 12. GIU handstamps in black. Prepaid as far as Hamburg with the 45 centesemi, it appears the sender tried to pay postage to destination by adding the second adhesive, however the letter was assessed at Hamburg (blue manuscript on front) and charged '16' skilling due in red crayon for postage from Hamburg to destination. Reverse with 'Berlin / Hamburg' cds (16/6), Hamburg cds and Danish P.O. in Hamburg datestamp (17/6), the latter in blue. A wonderful and extremely rare cover. Cert. Colla (2004).

Reverse of cover with 'Mafeking' squared circle and London transit cds (Dec 26). A most unusual and attractive cover.

TUZLA (Feb 18), returned to 'Pakrac' (Feb 22), sent again and struck with BARCS cds (Feb 25) on the inside; further datestamps verso with 'Nagy-Kanizsa' (Feb 27), 'Osiek (March 3), oval framed 'Magy. Kir. Mozgoposták / Fönökségé / Nagy-Kanizsa Vasp.' (undated in violet), 'Eszék / Felsc Város / Osiek' (March 18). A few imperfections but a remarkable and scarce piece.

    ROPiT 1865: 2 pi. blue & rose without rose underlying below "R.O.P.iT.", fresh colour and large margins all round showing part of the cutting lines on three sides, fold in the upper part, tied by framed "P.P." in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 148) and two strikes of "COMPAGNIE RUSSE DE NAVIGATION SMYRNE" cds in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 150) to outer letter sheet to Mersina. The rare datestamp of Smyrna is described by Tchilinghirian to be used in blue and was thought to be used only on incoming mail tf Smyrna which is here proved not to be the case. In spite of its faults a arre and appealing cover.

    Odessa 1919: Three commercial covers with printed company headings, two used to London and the other to Lisbon, Portugal; this last franked by Odessa Trident Type II imperforate 15 k. tied by two line RECEIVED FROM H.M.SHIP / NO CHARGE TO BE RAISED in black with Paris cds verso (April 17) and Reseal French Military Censor at left. Lisbon arrival cds (April 22) also on reverse. The two covers to London are franked by similar adhesive but untied but with British 'Opened By Censor / 4513' on reverse, and a stampless cover endorsed from Odessa with the 'No Charge' handstamp. Faults but a rare trio showing the communication difficulties with the rest of Europe at this date.

The Notice is struck with oval 'Poste Aerienne / Aéronautique / Armées d'Orient / Le Capitaine Bladinieres' cachet at base, and struck at top with the official (thin) type ARMÉES ALLIÉES EN ORIENT / POSTE AÉRIENNE cachet in violet.  Probably unique historical document. Illustrated in G. Sassower's article in the London Philatelist (May 2000) on page 131.

One bag of mail survived and this envelope was put on board in Bucharest, mailed  from 'Lupena' in Romania to Haifa (adhesives on reverse), with framed explanatory cachet in Hebrew "Accident Mail / El Al / 4X-AKC / Route: Paris - Lydda / July 27, 1955". No reason for the downing of the plane was ever given.

Ein sehr schöner und ideal dokumentierter Beleg innerhalb des DÖPV, dem auch Holstein schon seit dem 1. Juli 1851 angehörte.

    1980/81: Norfolk Island Aeroplanes 1 c., 2 c. and 3 c. values - imperforate Proofs each affixed to three Harrison & Sons presentation cards, 1 c. value depicts the 'Gypsy Moth' (as utilised for the issued 2 c. value), 2 c. value depicts the 'Curtiss P-40 Kittyhawk' as utilised for the issued 3 c. value and the 3 c. Proof shows 'Chance Vought Corsair' as utilised for the issued 4 c. value. These errors were discovered at the Proof stage and later corrected, hence these three are the sole examples known or recorded. Unique.

    1849/2000: Collection with several hundred stamps used/unused or in mint condition, incl. many better single values and full sets, souvenir sheets as Paris exhibition (3), PEXIP 1937 (4), CITEX 1949 (2), Liberation issues WW 2( partly in blocs of four), plenty of modern booklets, advertising labels, a few cards and covers etc., the classic part in mixed and the rest in good condition and housed in five LINDNER albums.

    1880/1910c.: Negative Seal Cancellations, the collection on covers/cards (65) and a few pieces, all with most exceptional strikes of Deersadet with different types and struck in black, blue or violet; 1881 opened for display cover with 10 pa. lilac block of four cancelled 'Edirne' in blue to Sofia via Tartarpazardgik, Konia, Monastir, Moustafa Pascha, Postman's personal TPO seal etc. A superb and rare collection, many ex collection R. Strauss.

    1849/1980: Collection with several hundred stamps used/unused incl. plenty of better items and full sets, the classic part with colour shades and div. cancellations, fine range of Napoleon III issues, furthermore Paris and Strasbourg souvenir sheets (partly stuck down), war orphans, airmails etc., also a few stamps from Algeria, Marocco and Tunesia, mainly in good conditon and housed in one album, in additon one stockbook with modern mint material. Inspection recommended.
