    Stato Pontificio 1852: 7 baj. black on blue, a superb used horizontal strip of three with large even margins all round, used on cover from Rome to Copenhagen cancelled by 'Roma' datestamps in black with repeated strike alongside at right and the envelope crossed in manuscript to denote pre-payment. Reverse with Berlin transit (Dec 28), Hamburg cds (Dec 29) and Danish P.O. in Hamburg cds of the same day. Despite the September 27, 1852 Postal Treaty stating that prepayment was possible to Denmark at this rate (5 baj. for Papal States, 8 baj. for German / Austrian share of Postage and 8 baj. for Danish share), the letter was nevertheless charged '16' (skilling) due in manuscript on reverse.
