5 c. orange-buff, a dry printing, used in combination with 10 c. greenish blue on December 21, 1861 cover from James H. Jenney in Honda (cachet at upper right, Jenney was an English miner from Sussex) mailed to the firm of Rasch & Ca. in Bogotá, each stamp cancelled by "0" in black. The stamps in fine condition with the 10 c. showing stain from the manuscript ink underneath, some negligible creasing from the cover of no significance. A rare and exceptional franking during the four month period under 'Mosquera' rates. Signed Calves, cert. Moorhouse (2012).
Note: On August 28, 1861 Tomas Cipriano de Mosquera altered the existing postal rates by memorandum. He ordered that the internal Colombian postal rates of April 1846 be re-introduced, namely 10 centavos for an inter-state letter and 15 centavos from one state to another. Only four letters are known sent during the four month period between August and December 1861, a new organisation being implemented on January 1, 1862.

10 c. green imperforate, three single examples used on 1920 flown triple rate cover from Cartagena to Barranquilla tied by "CCNA / Cartagena" cachets in violet; endorsed "Por Avión Santa Marta", franked additionally with numeral 2 c. rose and 1917 5 c. blue pair tied by circular "Correo Aereo / Cartagena-Colombia" datestamps (June 10, 1920-date error for June 5) in black. Reverse with Barranquilla datestamp in violet (June 7). It should be noted that the "Santa Marta" was a hydroplane and the replacement for the doomed "Cartagena" which crashed on April 29, there being no airmail service in May 1920 in consequence. A few imperfections but a rare cover - the only known letter from this Flight.

20 c. bright blue in a superb rich shade, used on 14 March 1860 entire letter from Ambalema to Barranquilla, docketed '20' at upper right and franked accordingly; the adhesive tied by bold strike of oval "HONDA / FRANCA" handstamp in blue and just touched by file fold not detracting from wonderful appearance. The entire travelled on the coastal route down the Magdalena River, with 20 centavos pre-paying the single letter rate for a distance of 450 to 1350 km. A beautiful cover and of great rarity, believed to be the earliest recorded usage of this issue on letter. Cert. Moorhouse (2012).

"50 centavos blue" error of transfer for 5 c., the finest of the five known used examples, from position 38 on the second setting sheet which was punched from the sheet when the error of transfer was noticed by the Post Office. Just touched at base and with minor airhole caused by the red cancellation ink used on the application of the "Buenaventura / Franca" handstamp, otherwise a fantastic example of this rarity, the cancellation leaving the "50" error at top particularly clear. One of the rarest stamps of classic philately. Cert. Moorhouse (2012) Gi 3d = £ 5'000/Scott = $ 15'000.
