Reverse with disinfection cachet applied at Semlin "Netto Di Fuori E Sporco Di Dentro" in black and London Bishop marks of arrival, charged 1 shilling due in manuscript. On arrival Greece Large Hermes 2nd Athens 40 lepta deep lilac rose on greenish applied and tied by Sros cds for onward transmission. Reverse with 'Lloyd Agenzie / Smirne' transit and Syros cds. 1870 (March 12): Entire letter from Smyrna to London sent unpaid via Triest (where '5' in blue manuscript applied), with "Smirne" thimble datestamp of despatch in black (Tchilinghirian fig. 10). Struck with large "5½" (silvergroschen) handstamp in transit on Cöln-Verviers T.P.O. (Van Der Linden fig. 3077) this being deleted by London Foreign Branch obliterators on arrival where rare "11d." handstruck due marking was applied in black: Postage 9 d. + 2 d. for unpaid letter. Constantinopel cds in black and scarce VIA KUSTENDGE & VIENNA straight line handstamp in black (Van der Linden fig. 2946). Vienna transit on reverse (July 2) and Paris arrival (July 4), where charged 10 decimes due. A very scarce and fine instructional marking.

Struck in transit in Vienna with rare "7" (silvergroschen) handstamp in black (Van Der Linden fig. 3106b), and on arrival in Aachen the handstamp was annotated "7½" with manuscript addition for Belgian charge. Carried via Czernowitz (Oct 3) and fumigated at the border (Raucher number "R.No.79" on reverse) and thence via Krakau to Triest, where charged 18 kreuzers due (9+9).
