RMSP 1842 (March 2): Entire letter from La Guayra to London, struck with late use of oval framed "REPUBLICA DE COLOMBIA / Guayra / Franca" handstamp in red (without Colombia erased). Reverse with British P.O. "LA-GUAYRA" double arc cds in red (March 28). Carried by "HMS Flamer" to St. Thomas, "RMSP "Medway" to Nassau, Bahamas and RMSP "Clyde" on her Maiden voyage to England where charged "2/3d." to pay upon receipt. RMSP 1861 (Aug 7): Cover from Caracas to Genova, Italy, franked by 1859/61 ½ r. orange, two examples and sheet marginal 1 r. deep blue, coarse impressions, with ample to large margins all round, cancelled by two strikes of circular "CORREOS / CARACAS" datestamps in blue (Aug 22). Carried on the RMSP "Seine" from St. Thomas with London transit cds on reverse (Sept 13) in red and struck there with "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy marking. Calais transit on front and three French datestamps on reverse, charged '20' décimes due on receipt. The earliest recorded usage of the 1 real coarse printing in a extraordinarily deep colour. Carried on the RMSP "La Plata" from St. Thomas with London transit cds on reverse (April 14) in red and struck there with "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy marking. Calais transit on front and three French datestamps on reverse, charged '8' décimes due on receipt. Carried on the RMSP "La Plata" from St. Thomas with London transit cds on reverse (April 14) in red and struck there with "GB / 1F 60c." accountancy marking on the Venezuelan adhesives. Calais transit on front and three French datestamps on reverse, charged '16' décimes due on receipt. Carried on the Ligne E Steamer "Guyane" to Fort de France with octagonal "LIGNE B / PAQ. FR. No. 4" datestamp (Nov 29) displaying well on reverse (Salles fig. 1432) and thence on the "Ville de Bordeaux", taxed on arrival with circular "1P 30" in blue. Messageries Impériales 1877: Cover from La Guaira to to Vera Cruz, Mexico at triple rate, bearing Venezuela 1865/70 ½ r. pale claret in a vertical pair with 1873 2 r. yellow, two stained single examples with overprint inverted (Scott 19+44a) - the sole mixed issue combination usage recorded - tied by circular "CORREOS / LA GUAIRA" handstamps in black. Additionally franked by France 1870 Siège 40 c. orange, a single and horizontal strip of four, all tied by octagonal "LA GUAYRA" Consular datestamps (July 19) in black (Salles fig. 1374). Carried on the Ligne E "Cacique" to Fort de France and Ligne B "Ville de Brest" to Vera Cruz where charged at triple inland rate "75 c." due in black. FR. / PAQ. FR. B. No. 4" datestamps (Sept 30) in black (Salles fig. 1446). The "COL. FR." datestamp deleted (as Venezuela was not a French Colony) and "LIGNE B / PAQ. FR. No. 4" substituted (Sept 30) in b lack (Salles fig. 1432). Initially carried on Ligne E "Desirade" to Fort de France and thence by Ligne B "Ville de Brest" to St. Nazaire. Taxed on arrival with circular "1P 30" due marking in blue. Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 155. Carried on the RMSP "Neva" from St. Thomas with London transit cds on reverse (May 12) in red and manuscript charge "1/3d." in ink. Reverse with "Aus ENGLAND / Per AACHEN" transit (May 12) in blue and arrival cds of the following day, charged '16' ngr. due. A magnificent and rare usage, very few "yellows" are recorded on letter, Everaldo Santos AIEP recorded just 6 covers (one was in the 'Gregory Frantz' sale in January 2021 in Corinphila).
