London (June 12) cds in red on reverse and struck there with framed "GB / 1F 90c." accountancy marking. Calais transit and reverse with four French transits, charged '12' décimes due upon arrival.     PSNC 1865: Cover from Santiago to Lima, Peru endorsed "por Vapor", franked by 1861/62 10 c. blue, three margins, just touched, and 20 c. green, four single examples with good even margins all round tied by four strikes of the 'Cancelled' obliterator in black. SANTIAGO despatch cds in red at right (Aug 16). On arrival in Lima (Aug 26, datestamp on reverse), the cover was marked '3' in blue crayon for triple rate and handstruck "30 / CENTAVOS" applied in black together with oval CONDUCCION / DEL CARTERO / GRATIS in black (free delivery). A rare and most attractive franking - the cover weighed 1½ ounces, thus a Chilean sextuple rate and the letter required 30 centavos to Valparaiso and a further 60 centavos for the PSNC rate of 10 c. per ½ ounce. A rare cover, illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 188. Certs.     PSNC 1864: Entire letter from Valparaiso to Coquimbo endorsed "per Steamer", franked by 1862 20 c. green, a horizontal strip of four with large to touched margins and portions of adjoining stamps at base, at left and at right, used with single 1861/62 10 c. blue tied in black. VALPARAISO cds of despatch in red (Nov 27) below. The letter, written in English, mentions the Steamer "Cloda" would be carrying the Mail and also mentions many enclosures which accounts for the 90 centavos rate. Struck there with "PANAMA / TRANSIT" circular datestamp (April 3) in black and earliest recorded usage of Panama Exchange marking "12" in black (Parmenter & Gordon record 26 Aug 1870 as earliest date). Triangular 'T' marking and passed to French Office with rare octagonal "PANAMA / LIG. A. PAQ. FR. No. 1" datestamp in red (Salles fig. 1413 bis), thence on "Le Washington" from Colon to St. Nazaire with arrivals on reverse (Aug 24) and charged '12' décimes handstruck. Carried on PSNC Steamer to Panama, thence on the "Nile" to Plymouth. 'London / Paid' arrival cds (March 17) in red also tied the 10 d. adhesive. Le Havre arrival on reverse of a rare three issue, three colour franking. Top flap partly missing and envelope strengthened below the franking. Illustrated in Edition D'Or 59 on page 191. Reverse with Truro despatch cds (Feb 15) and London transit (Feb 16) in red. Probably sent via the Magellan Straits as without a Panama transit. Sealed flap tear on reverse but an attractive cover.

    PSNC 1852 (May 30): Entire letter from Valparaiso to Cobija, Bolivia, solely struck by "5" PSNC numeral obliterator in black. Carried by the Steamer "Quito" with internal docketing of receipt (June 3). The A.R. Doublet census records this handstamp on covers carried by three Steamers: Quito, Lima and Santiago, just five covers are recorded, all between January and May, 1852.
