Reverse with Syros arrival cds (March 13) and charged '20' lepta for inland delivery on receipt.     1869 (Jan 22): Entire letter written in Italian from Alexandretta to Aleppo, manuscript '1' in crayon at right, handstamped on arrival with two line POSTE - RUSSE / d'ALEP in blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 205). It is interesting to note the similarity of this marking with that of the French Post Office in Aleppo at the same time. The exceptional strike of this marking on a fine entire in excellent quality. Rare. The unique usage recorded by Tchilinghirian & Stephen. Cert. BPA (2000).
