Dr. Hugo Goeggel tells the story of aviation in Colombia from early 1919 until 1930 with his collection of stamps and covers. This is the period which is regarded as the “golden age” of aviation in Colombia. Over the years Dr. Goeggel has been able to acquire virtually all the philatelic rarities for his collection. All postal activities are documented with covers and stamps. To summarise, one can see that Dr. Hugo Goeggel’s collection of Colombian air mail has reached a level of completeness never previously attained.

In addition, the various cancellations, as well as the extremely rare usages of the early issues of Colombia on letters are included.

The collection of Dr. Hugo Goeggel documents the development of the post and the structure of the postal routes with covers from the year 1601 up to the beginning of the wars of independence in 1810. Dr. Hugo Goeggel’s postal history collection of the colonial period of Colombia by probably the most important collection of this exceptional collecting area in the history of Colombian philately.

Dr. Hugo Goeggel documents in great detail the different printings, printing plates and settings, the positions of individual stamps on the sheet, the use of postage stamps on letters. The different postage rates are also explained and the postmarks of various post offices on the postage stamps of the first issue of Ecuador are presented in detail. During his long career as a collector it has been possible for Dr. Hugo Goeggel to acquire almost all the major items in the philately of Ecuador for his collection. Among these are the unique half sheet of the first printing of the Medio Real blue, the largest known blocks on cover, overseas frankings and mixed frankings of different values. Also the only known registered letter of the first issue of Ecuador.
