1847: Embossed 1 s. green, Die W.W.1, an unused example of outstanding colour and freshness, sheet marginal at base with margins ample to large all round, variety "Two Silk Threads 20 mm. Apart", immaculate condition with single hinge remnant at top on otherwise full original gum. A truly wonderful stamp; sold to Lady Joan Joicey in November 1932 and still accompanied by Charles Nissen's original letter "I am submitting herewith for your inspection a 1/- octagonal, thread each side, an extremely rare item. There is only one other copy known, and I am not quite sure whether Captain Grainger has it or whether it is in the Royal collection...The price is £ 17. 10 s.". Unique in private hands, an unused pair is housed in the Reginald Phillips cxollection in the National Postal Museum, volume XXX, page 18. Magnificent and of the greatest rarity. Cert.
