    Ovruch Local Trident Overprint 1918: 50 kop. perf., with 'Ovruch' local overprint in black used with 1 r. with Kiev Trident overprint in violet and Ukraine 50 sh. carmine, all with punch-holes and tied to 1918 Money Order card by bold strikes of OVRUCH datestamps (Nov 20) in black. registration label at lower left and arrival datestamps (Nov 25) on reverse. Scarce and most attractive usage.

    1918: Ukrainian National Republic Parcel Card (see Bulat page 289), used from Romanov in Volhynia to Dunaevtsi Podillia, franked by Kiev Trident Type II overprinted in violet perf. 15 k. (on reverse), perf. 50 k., imperforate 1 r., and strip of three 7 r. imperforate, all with punch-holes, neatly tied by blue datestamps of despatch (Nov 25). Backstamped in blue on arrival (Jan 3, 1919). A very scarce and early usage of this card.

    1918: Ukrainian National Republic Parcel Card (see Bulat page 289), used from Berdichev to Dunaevtsi Podillia, franked on front by Kiev Trident Type II overprinted in violet 7 r. imperforate in a vertical strip of three, all three with scissor cuts, tied by Berdichev datestamps (Jan 2) in black. Reverse with Kiev Trident Type II overprinted in violet perf. 20 k. on 14 k. and two imperforate 1 r. tied on despatch with arrival cds (Jan 6) in blue alongside.

    Odessa 1919: Three commercial covers with printed company headings, two used to London and the other to Lisbon, Portugal; this last franked by Odessa Trident Type II imperforate 15 k. tied by two line RECEIVED FROM H.M.SHIP / NO CHARGE TO BE RAISED in black with Paris cds verso (April 17) and Reseal French Military Censor at left. Lisbon arrival cds (April 22) also on reverse. The two covers to London are franked by similar adhesive but untied but with British 'Opened By Censor / 4513' on reverse, and a stampless cover endorsed from Odessa with the 'No Charge' handstamp. Faults but a rare trio showing the communication difficulties with the rest of Europe at this date.

    Kharkiv 1919: 7 kopek postal stationery envelopes (2) mailed registered from Kharkiv to Moscow on the same day, one franked additionally with marginal 5 r. overprinted Kharkiv Trident in black, the other with imperforate 7 k. overprinted in black (signed Dr. Ceresa). Each with registration label of despatch at left, one with five intact seals on reverse and both backstamped in Moscow a mere three days later. A scarce and fine pair. Ex collection Zelonka.

    Podolia used at Kiev 1919: 25 k. perf. (opt. Type 8c) and, on reverse, imperforate 3 k. (5) overprinted Podolia Type 8d all tied to 1919 registered cover from Kiev to Moscow by Kiev cds's (July 20) and the 3 k. tied by Moscow arrival cds with Kiev registration cachet on front. Sensibly opened for better exhibit display, a rare commercial franking at correct 50 kopek rate.

    Soviet Ukraine 1920: 2 k. green imperforate and perf. 3 k. red, both in vertical pairs overprinted Kiev Trident Type II in violet, used on reverse of 1920 registered cover to Moscow tied by 'Krolevets' datestamps of despatch in black (Dec 9). Front of cover with registration label and further strike of despatch cds. A rare 10 rouble registered rate franking on a commercial cover. Ex collection Zelonka.

    Courier Field Post 1920: 10 hr. on 50 sh.orange-brown, a fine block of four applied across reverse of registered cover at correct 40 hr. rate, cancelled by 'Field Post' datestamp in violet (Oct 13), slight inclusion due to flap on one stamp, with 'Stavka A' (Field P.O. headquarters) datestamps at right and front with framed registration cachets in violet (two strikes, one deleted) and another superb strike of the Field P.O. handstamp. A rare cover. Cert. Pateman (2004).

    Courier Field Post 1920: 10 hr. on 30 sch. ultramarine, fine example with minor yellowing from gum showing through, used on 1920 cover addressed to the Army Field Headquarters and correctly franked at 10 hr., tied by Field Post datestamp in violet (August 26) - the earliest date recorded and thus a first day cover - with Stavka arrival datestamp on reverse of the same day. A superb and rare cover. Ex W. Houtzamer (1946) and for sale for the first time in nearly seventy years.

    Lot# : 1582 Ukraine

    Courier Field Post 1920: 10 hr. on 50 sh. carmine in a fine vertical pair (pos. 14/19) used with 20 hr. on 20 sh. brown (pos. 25) paying the registered rate on 1920 cover to Theodore Champion in Paris, tied by 'Stavka A' (Field P.O. headquarters) datestamps in violet (Oct 15). The cover was carried to Tarnow and transmitted with Poland with manuscript at top 'At Central Office Tarnow the letter was registered' and franked by 1919 5 m. brown-lilac tied by Tarnow cds in black. Registration cachets in violet and in black respectively alongside and reverse, top flap missing, with Field Post Office datestamp in violet (Oct 20). The Field Post issue was only valid within the Ukraine and their adhesives have also been cancelled by an unidentified 'D.P.' handstamp in black.

    Despite 1919 5 m. brown-lilac with lower right cover defective, a remarkable and extremely rare cover, purchased from Roumet in 1950 and believed unique.
