1844/46: Inclinado 10 r. grey-black, block of twelve used on reverse of 1849 outer letter from Rio Grande to Rio de Janeiro, paying the 120 reis Maritime rate, the left side of the block showing the vertical marginal rule; all cancelled by circular handstamps in red. The block has been repaired as it was split on opening the letter, leaving three stamps with closed tears and reaffixed to the cover. Nevertheless a rare usage and a most attractive franking. Cert. 1850: Cats Eyes issue, the 1910 reprint from the original Plates, panes of 50 stamps, all matching examples from the upper right of the sheet, with all stamps represented 10 r., 20 r., 30 r., 60 r., 180 r. 300 r. and 600 r. (less the 90 reis value) struck in black on thick board paper.
