1861: LENOIR, North Carolina 5 c. blue & orange imperforate created from wood-cut, the wonderful mint example applied on to a page of a diary piece (dated September 19, 1861) and in fine fresh conditon with good margins and of vivid colour. The diary piece is itself notarised on reverse with an embossed notary seal dated August 11, 1887 with the creator of the Lenoir 5 cent Die, Assistant Postmaster G.W.F.Harper (his father was the Postmaster), certifying the stamp to be his original example and the first Lenoir stamp printed. A fantastic item for the Classic Philatelist, very few unused copies exist of this adhesive. Signed Peckitt (Oct 21, 1909). Cert. Philatelic Foundation (2009)
