    British Post Office 1871: Lettersheet with large part contents, franked with Great Britain 2d. blue (corner faults) and 1s. green, plate 4, both tied by "VALPARAISO PAID AU 30 71" duplex, addressed to Germany, endorsed "via Magallanes & England" and for this route correctly franked, red "LONDON PAID" and oval "PD" struck on front, Wissingen c.d.s. arrival backstamp (1 Nov), despite small faults an attractive and very rare letter; at the time the accompanying certificate was issued, only one further letter from Chile to Europe had been recorded taking the route via the Strait of Magellan.     1854: Gillet printing, 5 c. burnt siena in nice fresh deep colour and with beautiful large margins, showing part of adjoining stamp at right, tied by light mute cancel to large part entire letter, adjacent red "SANTIAGO 9 MAYO 54" c.d.s., to Valparaiso, very fine.     1855: Perkins Bacon, Second London Printing, 5 c. brown-red on blued paper, horizontal pair with good to very large margins, tied to entire letter dated 'Valdivia 15.11.1856', with corresponding faint oval postmark on front, sent via British Post Office "VALPARAISO NO 30 1856" and London to Hamburg, there taxed "39" schilling, including the "2/2d." British share, arrival backstamp of January 18, 1857, a fine and scarce partially paid cover to Europe.
