    1861: Cover at single rate from Victoria Vancouver Island to Claix, France struck on despatch with oval framed "POST OFFICE / ♚ ARMS / VICTORIA V.I." in black, two fine strikes, the one at left obliterating a 'Paid' handstamp. Transit of 'SAN FRANCISCO / CAL' in black (March 1) with handstruck '15' (cents of US - French Convention of 1 April 1857), 'NEW YORK / 12' (cents, debit to France) datestamp (March 30) and placed on NY & Havre Line Steamer "Arago" with octagonal 'ET. UNIS SERV. AM. D / HAVRE' datestamp (April 15), charged on arrival with handstruck '8' décimes, all strikes in black.
