    Occupation stamps Alsace-Lorraine / Okkupationsmarken NDP Elsass-Lothringen 1870: Envelope from Fieldpost office to Rostock, bearing 1 c. green bronze, 4 c. grey lilac and 10 c. bistre brown, all with normal underprint 'burelage droit', tied by framed Prussian "K. PR. FELD-POST RELAIS No. 35 16 / 1" Fieldpost datestamp in black, a pefect information strike alongside. Reverse with distribution cds (Feb 12). An appealing three-colour combination to pay the 15 c. rate valuable within the occupied areas, Germany, Luxemburg, and Austria from January 13, 1871.

    Occupation stamps Alsace-Lorraine / Okkupationsmarken NDP Elsass-Lothringen 1870: Mourning envelope, despatched at a Fieldpost office and sent to Paris, bearing a horizontal pair and a strip of three of 2 c. brown red with normal underprint 'burelage droit', fresh and fine multiples, cancelled or tied by framed Prussian "K. PR. FELD-POST RELAIS No. 36 31 1" Fieldpost datestamp in blue, a clear information strike alongside. Taxed with '2' (décimes) upon arrival, an attractive and interesting entire which was underpaid by 10 c. for the part of the journey in the area under German control and unpaid for the residual journey. The French taxation includes only the unpaid French part. Signed Roumet

    Occupation stamps Alsace-Lorraine / Okkupationsmarken NDP Elsass-Lothringen 1870: Printed matter Wrapper with full content, sent within Metz, bearing a 4 c. grey lilac with inverted underprint 'burelage renversé', tied by Geramn style "METZ 21. 12 71" cds in black. Forwarded to Schwyz, Switzerland, where the addressee was also not found, a SCHWYZ despatch (Dec 23) cds was struck on reverse and the wrapper returned to Metz where it arrived on Dec 24. Some toning, nevertheless an interesting journey, cert. Calves (1984) Maury = € 1'000.

An appealing cover from a Farbricant de Pâtes de Foies Gras to the purveyor of the Prussian court. Signed Pfenniger.

PR. FELD-POST RELAIS No. 91 16 / 1" Fieldpost datestamp in black, information strike alongside, reverse with distribution cds (Jan 27). Most attractive.

    Occupation stamps Alsace-Lorraine / Okkupationsmarken NDP Elsass-Lothringen 1870: Entire letter from Vernay to Belfort, bearing a combination franking of Alsace-Lorraine 20 c. blue with normal underprint 'burelage droit' and France Napoléon laureated 1 c. bronze, 4 c. grey type II and 20 c. blue type II. The occupation stamp was tied by "SENNHEIM 31 10 71 6-6 N." despatch cds, information strike alongside, the three French adhesives were tied by Gros Chiffres '420' of Belfort. Some water staining on obverse and part of address redrawn, nevertheless an exceptional three-colour September-like franking to pay the new French 25 centimes rate.

    Occupation stamps Alsace-Lorraine / Okkupationsmarken NDP Elsass-Lothringen 1870: Entire letter from Pfalzburg to Marseille, bearing a combination franking of Alsace-Lorraine 20 c. milky blue with normal underprint 'burelage droit' and France Napoléon laureated 20 c. blue type II showing variety from pos. 72 B2 'Corne sur le nez'. The occupation stamp was tied by "PFALZBURG 10 8 71" cds, the French adhesive was tied by Étoile de Paris in blue while in transit. Reverse with Mettz transit and arrival (Aug 13) cds's. Two file folds well away from the franking and some toning, nevertheless an interesting combination franking.

    1872 (March 25): Entire letter from Metz to La Ferè, bearing a combination franking of Germany Small Shield 2 gr. blue (Mi 5) and France Cérès 25 c. blue type I (Yvert 60A). The German Imperial adhesive was tied by framed "METZ 25 / 3 72 6-7 N." cds, the French adhesive in transit by "PARIS ÉTRANGER 26 MARS 72". Signed Colla.rnNote: Even after German Imperial adhesives of the Small Shield design had been issued on January 1st, 1872, combination frankings were necessary to pay the full journey.
