    1808 (Nov 28): Colonial period entire letter prepaid from Panama to Sta. Fe de Bogotá, struck with PANAMÁ despatcch handstamp and "FRANCA." below, both in red (G&T #2 and #4 = RRR). An outstanding entire, crucial to any serious collection of Panama Postal History.

    1834 (Aug 25): Entire letter from Puna, Gulf of Guayaquil, Ecuador written from U.S.Ship 'Fairfield' (involved in the disarmament and dismantling of a group of ships belonging to an Ecuadorian revolutionary force after American mediation had ended a civil war - more in the contents within) addressed to Fallsbrugh, New York. Contents state "Lieutenant late of our ship returns via Panama fortunately enabling us to let our friends know that we are well...". Struck on reverse with circular FORWARDED BY / I.B. FERAUD / PANAMA cachet in black and struck on front by red SHIP and faint 'Baltimore' cds (Oct 29) in red. Slightly soiled and internal tape but a fascinating and rare entire.

    1845 (July 15): Entire letter from Havana to Lima, Peru endorsed 'via de Panama' in manuscript, with Forwarding Agent manuscript "Encaminada por SS Casamayor y Cia, Santiago de Cuba 18 Aprile 1845" thence to second Agent with "Forwarded by y.o.s. Elin Wright & Co., Kingston, Jamaica" with JAMAICA / PAID double ring datestamp on obverse (Sept 15) in red and '1/-' in red manuscript; thence to third Agent and reverse struck with PANAMA / FORWARDED BY / FREDERICK W. BYRNE cachet in black. An extremely rare "Triple Forwarded" entire in fine quality.

    1859: Colombia 20 c. blue, a used example with large margins all round in a bright shade, tied to small piece by oval framed PANAMA / FRANCO handstamp in red. An extremely rare usage of the first issue in Panama and most attractive.

    Wreck Mail 1887/88: 10 c. black on yellow, single example tied to 1892 cover to Vienna endorsed 'via New York' by Colon duplex in blue (Jan 13). Carried on the ill-fated North German Lloyd Steamer 'Eider' which sank off the Isle of Wight with much heroism displayed by the RNLI in saving the passengers and crew on board on January 31. The envelope struck with framed "Gehoben aus dem / geschetterten Schiff / "Eider" in violet with 'Franco' in black applied to denote payment. Reverse with New York transit cds (Jan 21) and Austrian P.O. Reseal label and arrival cds (March 9). Interesting article accompanies a fine and rare cover.rnrnNote: Friedrich Trump, grandfather of 45th U.S. President Donald Trump, emigrated from Bremen, Germany, to New York aboard the 'Eider' in 1885 at the age of 16. He made his fortune running brothels during the Klondike Gold Rush. Returning to Bavaria he was accused of avoiding the Military draft and denied citizenship and returned to the USA.

Reverse with two New York transit datestamps (Jan 3, 1895) in black. Rare and very fine.

Croydon arrival cds (June 2) on reverse. Closed opening tear at top but a rare usage.

    British P.O.'s in Colon 1862: Prepaid cover from Colon to Gloucestershire, England endorsed 'pr. West India Mail from Colon June 24, 61' (sic) at top, struck with fine "♕ / PAID / AT / COLON" in red, with manuscript rate '1/-' alongside in crayon and 'London / Paid' arrival (July 14) in red below. Reverse with double arc 'Colon' cds in black (June 23, 1862). Small part of top flap missing but a very scarce Crown Circle Gi CC4 = £ 4'750 / Scott = $ 5'500.

    British P.O.'s in Colon 1858/79: Great Britain 1 d. red, pl. 153, a used horizontal strip of six lettered AG-AL and a block of twelve lettered AA-AF / BA-BF, used on large piece (the reverse of a blue envelope), all canclled by nine full strikes of the "E88" obliterator of Colon. Faults to strip but the block very fine, however faults are to be expected in a multiple this size. A rare and spectacular piece.     British P.O.'s 1858/79: Great Britain 1 d. red pl. 87 in a horizontal pair and single 1865/73 4 d. vermilion pl. 7 used on 1866 entire letter written from Santa Marta, Colombia (Oct 26) to Callao, Peru, with oval framed AROSEMENA HERMANOS / PANAMA Forwarding Agent's cachet (Nov 9) in blue; the adhesives tied by "PANAMA / C35" duplexes in black of the same day. Reverse with Lima cds of receipt (Nov 17). A delightful and extemely rare, probably unique, Southbound entire Gi Z72 + Z85.

    British P.O.'s 1880: Great Britain 1 s. orange-brown, pl. 13, wmk. Spray, a horizontal strip of three lettered QF-QH, with blunted wing margin perfs. and first stamp with pulled perf. at left, however the strip is solely cancelled by two strikes of the three line dated PANAMA / 27 AUG 81 / TRANSIT in black. Rare. The Karl Louis Card Index records only one other 6d. on piece cancelled with handstamp which was not intended for use to cancel adhesive stamps.
