    Crimean War 1854: 1 d. red-brown, Die I, wmk Small Crown, two horizontal strips of three perf. 16 plate 191 lettered AG-AI and perf. 14 plate R3 lettered RD-RE respectively, two fine and a fresh multiples, lightly cancelled by strikes of "* ♚ *" crown between stars obliterator in black.     Crimean War 1854 (Sept 3): Embossed 1 s. green, a fresh example with large margins, well embossed, neatly cancelled by complete strike of "* ♚ *" crown between stars obliterator in black on piece to which the adhesive may not belong. Minor splitting along silk thread at top and bottom and very light corner crease outside design at top left, nevertheless a very rare usage and attractive adhesive. Cert. Karl Louis (2020) Gi = £ 3'000.rnRemarks: A very rare usage of the 1 s. Embossed cancelled with 'Crown between Stars' with just one other cut to shape single ex Yates and a damged strip of four on piece ex Piat recorded by the expert, Karl Louis.rnProvenance & Reference: The British Philatelist, vol.     Crimean War 1854: 1 d. red-brown, Die II perf. 14, wmk Small Crown lettered BJ-BL, a fine and a fresh horizontal strip of three, lightly tied by 'OXO' star between cyphers obliterator in black to officer's envelope to London. Reverse with "POST OFFICE / BRITISH ARMY OC 11 1855" despatch cds in blue and "10 FN 10 OC 22 1855" arrival datestamp in red. Some patina, nevertheless an appealing cover from the theatre of war.rnProvenance: 89. Shanahan's sale (April 1959).
