1871 (Oct 2): The famous cover from Acre to Beirut franked at Ship rate of 6 kopeks with pair of 1868 3 kop. green, perf. 11½, cancelled by framed floral handstamp in blue (Tchilinghirian fig. 224) with Nicola Datodi sender's cachet below and reverse with over-inked "Ropit-Beirut" datestamp in blue (fig. 217). Slight file fold not detracting from marvellous appearance. This cover is mentioned and discussed on page 161 of Tchilinghirian & Stephen. 1890 (Jan 23): 10 k. red & green, tied with large oval blueish R.O.P.i T. AGENT. RIZE 23 JANV 90 datestamp (Tchilinghirian fig. 92) on reverse of cover to Constantinople (Jan 27). The cover was taxed in Constantinople, but taxation was waved later on. Cover shortened at right, one of two covers known with this first strike of the small ROPiT office in Rizeh nearby the Turkish - Georgian border. Provenance: Collection Hissard.
