1878 (Oct 6): Great Britain 1864 1 d. red pl. 191, a horizontal pair used on Sailor's Concessionary rate cover from Panama to Plymouth, endorsed from one J. Frost, a Stoker on board "HMS Pelican", tied by "PANAMA / C35" duplex (Oct 6) in black. Reverse with Plymouth arrival cds (Oct 28). One adhesive with rounded corner and the envelope aged but an extremely rare concessionary usage - rate of 1 d. for Panama transit charge and 1 d. for Sailor's rate.rnProvenance: Collection Charles A. 1871 (April): Cover from Peru initially franked by 1868 Le Coq 1 d. green (Scott 12), probably carried privately to Panama where franked by Great Britain 1864 1 d. red pl. 81, four examples, 1867 6 d. violet pl. 8 and 1 s. green pl. 4 all tied by six strikes of the "C35" obliterator with PANAMA / TRANSIT cds alongside (April 20) in black. Faint London transit cds in red and reverse with Genova arrival cds (May 17) in black and charged '40' centesemi for local delivery. 1879 (Aug 17): Great Britain 1½ d. lake-red pl. 3, a used block of eight (4 x 2) on cover via Panama to London tied by five strikes of the "C35" obliterator with three line PANAMA / TRANSIT datestamp below (Aug 17) all in black. Reverse with London arrival datestamp (Sept 13). 1875 (May 18): Great Britain 1865 4 d. vermilion pl. 14, a single example, a pair and a horizontal strip of six, used on triple rate cover from Panama to Newark, England. Single ring PANAMA cds in black below (May 18) and reverse with 'Newark' arrival (June 14) in black. 1877 (Oct 5): Great Britain 1877 4 d. sage-green pl. 15, a used horizontal strip of three on 1877 single rate entire letter from Panama to London endorsed 'per Nile', tied by two fine strikes of the "C35" obliterator in black. Single ring PANAMA cds below (Oct 6) and 'London / Paid' cds in red of receipt (Oct 30). 1866 (Aug 7): Great Britain 1865 1 s. green pl. 4, a used example on 1866 entire letter from San Francisco, USA to Melbourne, Victoria endorsed 'Per Steamer via Panama', tied by "PANAMA / C35" duplex (Aug 25) in black. Carried on the "Kaikoura" of the 'Panama, New Zealand & Australia Royal Mail Co' and backstamped at Sydney (Oct 9) and Melbourne (Oct 13). Entire with file folds and the adhesive with rounded corner perf. however we record just one other cover from Panama to Australia in the Great Britain Used Abroad period being an 1867 franking to Sydney also bearing a 1 s. green pl. 4 (ex the Kornan collection). 1880 (Sept): Guatemala ¼ r. black on buff postal stationery newspaper wrapper used to Havana, Cuba with framed 'Intervencion. / Ynutilizado' cachet (Not Valid) in violet and 'Retour à l'envoyer' applied in violet. Re-sent from Panama with the Not Valid cachet handstamped '5' and '0' in black and mailed from Panama and franked by Great Britain 1880 1 d. venetian red tied by fine "PANAMA / C35" duplex (Oct 7) in black.
