1830 (Jan 28): Entire letter from Mexico City to Belfast, Ireland endorsed 'per H.M.B. Mutine' with large wax seal on reverse and superb strike of "MEXICO" fleuron applied in Falmouth in bright green and arrival datestamp (April 19) in red. Rated '3/6d.' due on receipt in manuscript. 1844 (Sept 27): Entire letter from Tampico by ship to Vera Cruz, mailed at the Mexican P.O. with circular 'Franco / Santa Ana de Tamalaupais' cds (Schatzkes fig. 1585) and '1' (real) charge mark in blue on reverse, prepaid '1/-' in red manuscript and struck with superb "♚ / PAID / AT / TAMPICO" in red and equally superb double arc TAMPICO cds in red on reverse. 1870 (Feb 27): Great Britain 4 d. vermilion pl. 11, a horizontal strip of three used on 1870 cover from Tampico to Lugano, Switzerland tied by two bold strikes of "C63" obliterator with double arc "Tampico" cds of British P.O. below (Feb 27) at left. 'London / Paid' transit (March 28) and circular 'PD' applied in red, thence via Calais and Paris with further datestamps of 'Basel-Olten', Curio and Lugano (March 31) on reverse. An unusual usage placed directly on board the British ship to Vera Cruz and avoiding the Mexican internal fee. Illustrated in 'Mexican Maritime Mail' by Karl Schimmer and John Heath on page 127. Paquete ingles a Vera Cruz', franked by combination of Mexico 1868 imperforate 25 c. blue on pink (39-71) tied by oval FRANCO EN / TAMPICO oval in black (Schatzkes fig. 1582) and Great Britain 1864 1 d. red pl. 147, two singles and a pair, tied by two strikes of the "C63" obliterator in black for the additional cost of the voyage by sea to Vera Cruz. Double arc "Tampico" cds of British P.O. adjacent (Feb 27) in black. Docketed internally as received (March 8). A fine and rare combination usage.
