Lot# : 51 New South Wales
1850: Sydney View, 1 d. orange-red on soft thin yellowish paper, Plate 1, an unused block of twenty-three - the complete sheet less the two stamps at lower right, positions 24-25 - Plate Proof showing full sheet margins nearly all round, position 23 just shaved at right, position 18 with closed tear and several pressed creases but of no significance as the impression is of strong vibrant colour and is, without doubt, the largest multiple extant (the other large multiples of this Proof are of six and nine, sold together in the Corinphila 'Besançon' Sale I in November 2017, lot 6005) and thus this is a multiple of the foremost importance to both New South Wales and classic philately. A phenomenal Exhibition piece for the connoisseur.rnProvenance: Collection Hutson.Starting bid : 30,000 CHFHammer price : not soldLot# : 52 New South Wales
1850 (Aug): Sydney View 1 d. dull carmine on greyish paper, Plate II, a used example (Row 3, stamp 5 / position 15) thus showing the "Without Clouds" variety, with huge even margins all round, tied to 1851 local Sydney cover by oval of bars obliterator in black, the cancellation leaving the variety clear. Framed "6 / O CLOCK" marking alongside and reverse with "SYDNEY / ♚ / NEW SOUTH WALES" circular datestamp in black (Feb 24). Cover #74 in the Census. An exceptional and extremely fine usage, the finest of but two recorded thus - the other, ex Frajola, had the 'No Clouds' obliterated by the cancellation. An exhibition piece of the highest quality. 1856 (Oct 10): 3 d. dull green, imperforate, the extremely rare error on wmk'd "2" paper, a superb used example with large margins all round, of excellent colour and lightly cancelled in black. Finer than the exceptional Isleham example, this is, without doubt, one of the top examples recorded for overall quality and beauty. Cert. RPSL (1939) Gi = £ 3'750.rnProvenance: Collection G. H.
