1913: Two letters, written from Rochefort, each signed at base by Pierre LOTI (1850-1923), French Naval Officer and writer of 'Madame Chrysanthème', a novel of Japanese manners that is a precursor to Madame Butterfly and Miss Saigon, Le Roman d'un enfant (The Story of a Child), a somewhat fictionalized recollection of Loti's childhood that would greatly influence Marcel Proust; Ramuntcho (1897), The Last Days of Peking (1902); in later years he was a fervent pro-Ottoman supporter during the Balkan Wars; also a correspondence 1812/13 and 1830/42 from Rev. Liannos Private Post, Postage Dues 1866: (20 pa.) black on rose-pink paper, 4th printing (without horizontal line between 'Taxe Ext: and Taxe Int:'), the famous used horizontal pair, each Postage Due label with manuscript '1' in ink and total below each of 1.20 for a 3 piastres total charge, cancelled by oval "Galata" datestamp in black. Slight thin and closed cut between the stamps at base but extraordinarily rare, believed to be the sole recorded used multiple from any of the Settings. Cert. Liannos Private Post 1865/67: The collection on leaves with Proof pair of 5 pa. in black, 5 pa. black on blue imperf. block of six and three 5 pa. mis-perforated varieties, 20 pa. black on green imperf. blocks of four and of eight from different printings, 40 pa. on rose with striking paper-fold variety unused and mis-perf. varieties, many loose perf. values of the issue incl. some multiples, range of cancellations on the issue with rhomboid of dots (5), oval datestamps of Arnaud-Kioyi, Buyuk Dere, Buyuk Ada, Galata, Kacak, Pera, Scutari on adhesives; Printed Matter circular cancellations "Journaux en Franchise" in blue on white, in black on white paper and on blued; and a December 1866 5 pa. black on blued tied to large part of Omonoia newspaper by oval "Galata" datestamp (Dec 2, 1866) in black, cert.
