1857/59: Great Britain cancelled "G" in bars obliterator: the selection with 1 d. red (3) on small piece showing three fine strikes (and a noticeable re-entry on stamps HC and JC), 2 d. blue perf. 14 pair with two light strikes of the obliterator; 1856 6 d. lilac in a fine pair neatly cancelled and 1856 1 s. green in a pair and a strip of three both superbly cancelled by the "G" in bars. 1857 (Sept 10): Entire letter from Gibraltar to Genova endorsed 'Vapor Tiber', franked by Great Britain 1855 1 d. rose-red, perf. 14, horizontal pair tied by superb strikes of the "G" in bars obliterator (Type Z2), with double arc "Gibraltar" circular datestamp in blue at left (Sept 10). "Via / Di Mare" handstamp in red on front and charge altered in manuscript from "3" decimi to "15 cmi" in black. Reverse with Genova arrival (Sept 13). An important entire - the Great Britain stamps had been authorised for use in Gibraltar on August 19, 1857, with the first shipment arriving on September 3. This entire is the earliest recorded usage of both the adhesive stamps and the "G" obliterator in Gibraltar and the earliest recorded usage of British stamps being authorised as "Used Abroad" in a Colony - rather than in a theatre of War. Spanish Currency 1895: De La Rue page from the Appendix Book, in two halves for display, dated in manuscript at top "March 21st, 1895" with previously issued values of 5 cs. green, 10 cs. carmine, 25 cs. ultramarine, 40 cs. orange-brown, 50 cs. bright lilac and 1 p. bistre all perforated as issued, with proposed additions of 20 cs. in maroon (two examples) both imperforate with hand-painted Duty Plates, 1 peseta bistre imperforate (3) with Duty Plates printed in black, violet and the chosen colour of ultramarine; 2 peseta values imperforate in blue-grey (2) each with hand-painted Duty Plate in blue-grey and three additional 2 p. in black imperforate with printed Duty Plates in violet, carmine and ultramarine; together with De La Rue dummy stamps (4) in varying colours for comparison. Crown CA paper, provided for Trials for the proposed 2 d. and 1 s. values showing the Gibraltar Key Plate in dull mauve (5) with Duty Plate in black, lilac, green, orange and blue (selected); the Key Plate in orange-brown with Duty Plate in green (selected), lilac, carmine, blue and black; the Key Plate in bright lilac with Duty Plate in carmine (selected), green, orange, blue and black; the Key Plate in bistre with Duty Plate in blue, carmine (selected), green, lilac and black. 1902 (Dec): Reconstruction of the Colour Trial Appendix Sheet A, which was cut up and sold in 1975, with the 2 d. and 2 s. values for the May 1903 issue, with Imperforate Colour Trials for the 2 d. value (7) and 2 s. (4) all on Crown CA watermarked paper; six being from the original Appendix Sheet (illustrated in 'The De La Rue Collection' edited by Frank Walton RDP on page 3266) with the 2 d. Trials annotated for the values as issued including a proposed 4 d. value with manuscript "This value not required" in red ink, and colour alterations to be made for the 2 d., 6 d. and 1 s. values; the Shilling values all in green with Duty Plates in blue, violet, carmine and black. 1911: De La Rue composite photographic Essay, touched up by hand, for the low value Master Die with the King facing right, the frame from the King Edward VII design overlapping the George V head, to test the possibility of reversing the monarch's head for the new reign (as was done with coinage). This Essay was shown to the King on board the Royal Yacht on August 8, 1911 but he preferred the previous format. The Essay on card, 40 x 42 mm., numbered '4' at top.
