    1847 (June 18): Entire letter from London addressed to 'General Mosquera, Presidente de la Republica de la Neuva Granada, Bogotá' with manuscript '1/- Paid' in red at top. On arrival in St. Thomas on RMS Packet the cover was misdirected and struck with double arc "GRENADA" double arc cds (July 10) in black. Mailed on with "KINGSTON-JAMAICA" cds in black (July 15) where correctly forwarded to  Santa Martha. Struck with oval "SANTA MARTA / DEBE" in blue until the clerk noticed the addressee: whereon the handstamp was over-struck with "SANTA MARTA / DE / OFICIO" handstamp also in blue. A rare and most unusual entire in wonderful fresh condition that displays well.

Mailed on to British Packet at Cartagena with further manuscript notation on front "Forwarded per H.M. Packet via Kingston, Jamaica", and struck with "KINGSTON / JAMAICA" cds in black on reverse (Sept 14). On arrival in Falmouth "CARTHAGENA / O" Fleuron applied in red with London cds of arrival (Oct 29) in red, where rated '2/3d.' due to pay. A fine and rare cover that displays well.

A rare and impressive franking, mailed during the four month period of 'Mosquera' Postal rates. Cert. Moorhouse (2012).rnrnNote: On August 28, 1861 Tomas Cipriano de Mosquera altered the existing Postal Rates by memorandum. He ordered that the internal Colombian rates of April 1846 be re-introduced, namely 10 centavos for an inter-state letter and 15 centavos from one state to another.
