1803 (May 29): Entire letter from Nantes to Port au Prince, Ile St. Domingue, endorsed in manuscript on flap "Forwarded by y.m.o. s. (your most obedient servant) Joseph Kaumann, New York, Sept 7, 1803". Str.' tied by "Jacmel / Haiti" cds (Oct 15) in black with information strike alongside. Calais-Paris cds on front and reverse with Mont Cenis transit cds (Nov 2). 1898/99: 10 c. orange-red used on 1902 cover from Cap Haitien to New York endorsed in arabic 'by sea', tied by 'Cap Haitien' cds and by lower case "Disinfected" handstamp in violet. Reverse with 'San Juan, P.R.' transit (June 18) and New York arrival (June 22). Disinfected against Smallpox by fumigating with sulphur.
