    1803 (May 29): Entire letter from Nantes to Port au Prince, Ile St. Domingue, endorsed in manuscript on flap "Forwarded by y.m.o. s. (your most obedient servant) Joseph Kaumann, New York, Sept 7, 1803". Unlisted by Rowe, the cover mailed during a turbulent period of Haiti's history: in August 1803 the French had lost Jeremie and were to lose Cayes to Dessalines in October.

    1846: Cover from Gonaives to London struck on despatch with superb negative "GONAIVES / PAYÉ" oval handstamp in black. British P.O. "JACMEL" double arc cds on reverse (July 20) and sent unpaid. London arrival on reverse (Aug 20) in red and charged 1/5d. due to pay in manuscript. Scarce and fine.

    1881: 3 c. bistre on pale bistre overlapped by 7 c. blue on greyish, each with ample to large margins all round, tied to 1881 cover to Bordeaux endorsed 'per Royal Mail' by "Port Au Prince / Haiti" datestamps (Sept 9) in black. Reverse with Bordeaux arrival cds (Sept 27) in black. A fine and scarce first issue cover.

    1881: 7 c. blue on greyish imperforate with good to large margins and 1882 3 c. grey bistre on pale bistre, perf. 13½, used on 1885 entire letter to Genoa, Italy endorsed 'Per R. M. Str.' tied by "Jacmel / Haiti" cds (Oct 15) in black with information strike alongside. Calais-Paris cds on front and reverse with Mont Cenis transit cds (Nov 2). A fine and attractive mixed issue franking.

    1898/99: 10 c. orange-red used on 1902 cover from Cap Haitien to New York endorsed in arabic 'by sea', tied by 'Cap Haitien' cds and by lower case "Disinfected" handstamp in violet. Reverse with 'San Juan, P.R.' transit (June 18) and New York arrival (June 22). Disinfected against Smallpox by fumigating with sulphur. Slight corner repair but a very rare cover - illustrated in "Disinfected Mail" by Meyer on page 323.rnrn
