Officials 1932 (July 11): ½ d. orange, the famous "O.S." inverted overprint, in pair with normal, rejoined, the variety being marginal from the top of sheet and rejoined initially by the Printer, from the original horizontal strip of six forming the top row of the left hand pane which was found to be defective. The printer working from the back of the sheet, then placed six stamps back on to the sheet and re-joined them to the sheet, little realising that he had replaced them upside down and thus they received an inverted overprint when the sheet was passed through for the "O.S." overprint. The example offered here is cancelled by a light 'Brisbane / Queensland' cds in black. At the time, this was the sole recorded inverted overprint of Australia. Just six examples possible, a great rarity of Australian philately. Cert. RPS (1979) Gi = £ 20'000.
