    1863: 24 c. greyish lilac, straight edge at right, used on attractive 1867 cover to Switzerland, tied by segmented cork handstamp in black with 'Union City / Kan.' cds alongside (Nov 27) in black. Red 'New York / Paid' transit cds and '16' credit marking to US, and three line AMERICA / ÜBER BREMEN / FRANCO in blue at right with '3¼' silver groschen credit to Bremen in manuscript. Reverse with Basel and Bern cds's (Dec 20) and charged '10' rappen to pay on receipt. A fine cover.

    1869: 30 c. blue & carmine, a magnificent single example used on 1870 triple rate entire letter to Zurich (Bodmer correspondence), neatly tied by segmented cork handstamp in black, endorsed at upper right 'Str. Nevada, Swiss Closed Mail' of the Guion Line and struck below with 'New York Paid All / Br. Transit' Exchange Office cds in red (Oct 5) on despatch. Reverse with Basel cds and Zurich arrival (Oct 19). Unrecorded in the Rose / Searing 1869 census. A famous and delightful entire in the foremost Exhibition quality. Cert. P.F.     1870/71: 2 c. brown, with grill, a fine horizontal pair used on 1873 Printed Matter rate cover from New Orleans to Switzerland endorsed 'per first Steamer', the pair tied by neat cork cancels in black with sender's blue cachet above and 'New Orleans' despatch cds in black (July 19). Fine straight line PAID ALL in red adjacent and reverse with 'Neumünster' cds (Aug 6) in black. A delightful and rare rate, accompanied by a letter from Stanley B. Ashbrook and pencil notation on reverse: '4 c. Grill. Rare 4c. rate to Switzerland, far more rare than 4c. to France' (signed) 'Stanley B. Ashbrook'.
