Red 'New York / Paid' transit cds and '16' credit marking to US, and three line AMERICA / ÜBER BREMEN / FRANCO in blue at right with '3¼' silver groschen credit to Bremen in manuscript. 1870/71: 2 c. brown, with grill, a fine horizontal pair used on 1873 Printed Matter rate cover from New Orleans to Switzerland endorsed 'per first Steamer', the pair tied by neat cork cancels in black with sender's blue cachet above and 'New Orleans' despatch cds in black (July 19). Fine straight line PAID ALL in red adjacent and reverse with 'Neumünster' cds (Aug 6) in black. A delightful and rare rate, accompanied by a letter from Stanley B. Ashbrook and pencil notation on reverse: '4 c. Grill. Rare 4c. rate to Switzerland, far more rare than 4c. to France' (signed) 'Stanley B.
