    5 pa. brown, 10 pa. mauve and 2 pi. yellow in a horizontal pair and a severed block of four, all used on triple weight (above 20 grams) 1874 cover to North Shields cancelled by V. R. POSTE EGIZIANE / PORTO SAID datestamps (Feb 20) in black. Reverse with flap missing but with Alexandria transit cds (Feb 22) and part of North Shields cds. Faults but a remarkable franking.

    Note: Under the terms of the Anglo-Egyptian Postal Convention (1 July 1873) mail between the interior of Egypt and Great Britain could be prepaid with stamps at origin.
